Lakehead University’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research (CIER), in partnership with Jones Insurance and the Economic Development and Innovation Office (EDIO) at LU would like to invite you to take part in the FinTech Challenge. This inaugural event, will take place November 16-17, 2018 in the brand new CASES building at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.
The goal of this event is to provide aspiring students opportunity to develop solutions to today’s issues in the finance industry. The theme for this year is Insurance. Expectations and a changing regulatory landscape surround all aspects of the customer experience and are felt acutely in the Insurance space.
The event kickoff on Friday night will introduce sponsors, outline problem statements, and outline resources available to teams. During the event, teams will choose to work on problems, as provided by sponsors, utilizing datasets and APIs from participating sponsors to create ideas for new product and service offerings. On the following Saturday night, teams will present their ideas and a panel of judges will award cash prizes to the winning teams.
With Lakehead University home to over 500 students in the Computer Science, Software and Electronic Engineering, Advanced Mathematics, Accounting, Finance and Information Systems disciplines, there is an opportunity to harness new insights from the generation driving changing attitudes towards insurance and we are looking for this event to help shape future research initiatives and partnerships. The event also hopes to attract high school students, Confederation College students, and community members at large.
